Week 1: Colors of Mexico

A celebration of Mexico’s art, food, and music — from papel picado to mariachi. Campers explore color, creativity, and cultural pride. Colores symbolizes creativity, art, and the diversity of our cultures and people. From the bright markets of Oaxaca to the golden deserts of the north and the turquoise shores of the Yucatán, Mexico is a land painted in color and tradition. This week, campers celebrate the colores that make Mexico shine — through art, music, dance, and storytelling that reflect its Indigenous, African, and Spanish influences. Children create papel picado, learn folk dances from different regions, and explore how color tells the story of culture — in murals, embroidery, and even in the food that fills the table. Along the way, they’ll pick up new Spanish words, rhythms, and inspiration from Mexico’s deep cultural mosaic. At ¡Viva Verano!, Colores de México reminds us that every shade has a story — and together, they create something beautiful.

Spanish Language Learning

Spanish isn’t just heard — it’s intentionally taught. Our bilingual and immersion-based program is designed to strengthen each child’s Spanish proficiency through purposeful instruction, meaningful practice, and joyful interaction. Every activity—from art and music to games and storytelling—is guided by bilingual educators who provide the structure, repetition, and encouragement children need to grow in confidence and fluency.

Heritage Exposure

For children who hear Spanish at home but don’t yet use it confidently, ¡Viva Verano! bridges the gap between understanding and expression. Through daily conversation, storytelling, music, and games, campers strengthen comprehension and speaking skills while reconnecting with the pride of their cultural roots. Our bilingual educators create a safe, encouraging space where making mistakes is part of learning—and where identity and language grow together.

New Learners

For children beginning their Spanish journey at school or through apps, ¡Viva Verano! builds a true foundation for bilingualism. Our immersive approach combines structured repetition, movement-based learning, and visual cues so that vocabulary and phrases stick naturally. Campers practice listening and speaking through guided play, songs, and small-group interaction—gaining confidence to communicate in real-world situations. Over time, they don’t just “pick up words”—they begin thinking and responding in Spanish, developing the cognitive and social benefits of becoming bilingual.

Confident Speakers

For fluent or near-fluent children, ¡Viva Verano! is a space for academic enrichment and linguistic mastery, not just leadership. Campers expand beyond oral fluency into reading, writing, and advanced expression—building bilingual literacy through creative storytelling, journaling, cultural research, and project-based learning. They explore grammar and structure in ways that feel relevant and empowering, preparing them to thrive in bilingual classrooms and future academic settings. These campers also practice language leadership, not as tutors, but as cultural collaborators—leading performances, sharing perspectives, and producing bilingual art or media that celebrates their voice.
